Bastrop city building design panel to meet at 3 p.m. Tuesday

Bastrop, Tx–The building design review group charged with shaping recommendations for how a new City Hall and Convention Center on Chestnut Street near the Union Pacific Railroad track will look has set its first meeting for 3 p.m. Tuesday at the present City Hall on Main Street.

The session will be open to the public and may include other members of the Bastrop City Council. Earlier this week the city council decided, on a divided 3-2 vote, to have the advisory panel pursue its original charge to help shape the layout and appearance to the proposed city structures.

Tuesday the review group will get a first opportunity to discuss interior layout and exterior design suggestions by architect Mervin Fatter, according to Bastrop Mayor Terry Orr. The designs could be available for distribution as early as Feb. 6, the mayor said.

The public is welcome to attend, Orr said in a Feb. 5 interview. The design advisory panel will hold a series of sessions in the coming weeks to consult on suggestions from Fatter and to receive other public input on how the new buildings should look, said Orr.

A regular city council meeting is also slated for 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall. The agenda for that session is expected to be available sometime Feb. 6.
